It's official, Google Nexus 5 (2015) to launch on Sept 29

The Google Nexus 5 can be called the world's first affordable flagship smartphone. It has all the ingredients of a cutting edge phone, yet it was rather modestly priced. Two years later, people still crave for a successor, which Google did not bring out last year. Now, you could say, that the wait is about to get over.

Google has announced an event, which will happen on September 29, where it is widely expected to launch new two new Nexus smartphones and a successor to the Chromecast HDMI dongle, which people use to stream content on their TVs.

The invite reads "join us for tasty new treats and much s'more," which is a not so subtle hint at the official unveil of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which Google announced at Google I/O. If that's the case, like always Google will also have a few devices to show-off.

We've seen umpteen number of leaks. The rumour mill has worked overtime and revealed that there will be a successor to the Nexus 5, finally and also a new model of the Nexus 6, which was released last year.

The Nexus 5 as per the rumours will again be made by LG and will have a plastic body like the previous model. It is expected to have a 5.2-inch full-HD display, a high-end exa-core processor and 3GB RAM, which should make it plenty fast. The phone will also have a 12-megapixel camera on the back with optical image stabilisation and a laser auto focus system.

Interestingly, the phone is also expected to have a fingerprint sensor on the back, which is probably there because Google is going big on fingerprint authentication with Android 6.0.

The Nexus 6 on the other hand, is rumoured to be made by Chinese company Huawei. The Nexus 6, is likely to be a more high-end product with an HTC One like metal body. The phone is likely to have better innards than the Nexus 5. This means more RAM, a faster octa-core processor and a higher resolution 5.7-inch screen. The cameras should also be better than the Nexus 5 and there is a high possibility of a fingerprint scanner.

Both the phones are likely to also have the USB-Type C connector, which is slowly becoming the standard for devices these days. We've already seen it on the OnePlus Two.

Lastly, the new Chromecast will have updated specs, and perhaps a smaller form. The Chromecast has been very successful for Google, but in the second half of 2015, it feels under powered and a bit dated. Google is likely to give a massive update to its wireless stack so that it streams content faster when on a Wi-Fi network.

You can expect people from the Android team to handle the event and perhaps Google's new CEO Sundar Pichai could also make an appearance.
